Abstrakt: By definition, a smart, sustainable city is technologically enabled, connected and agile to address economic, environmental and social challenges. The success of a smart city, however, also relies on the competencies of its citizens, suggesting a re-modelling of engineering education towards a learner-centred, competency-based education. This paper gives an overview of the challenges encountered throughout implementing the BIOART multinational curriculum development project. A project that tackled the challenges for an inclusive, resilient smart city concept by developing novel teaching and learning content and adopting innovative educational methodologies in biomedical engineering, a.o. in the context of an internationally organised summer school and online hackathon.]]>

Abstrakt: Cooperation of an university and a private company resulted in developing of composite skeleton made of spruce wood of C24 class and polymer flexible adhesive, being innovative solution investigated during a project in Poland. Structural elements were constructed using flexible adhesive layers made of special two component polyurethanes of 3 mm thickness and installed in prototype timber houses. Carried out research on this innovative solution indicated that flexible bonding of wood can be applied in civil engineering practice. Following this idea, new research was carried out at Cracow University of Technology in Poland focusing on parametric analysis of flexible bonding using in structural connection of Douglas Fir wood (Pseudotsuga Carriere) and flexible polyurethane Sika PS. Tested specimens were constructed in form of beams with three various flexible adhesive thicknesses of 1 mm, 2 mm and 4 mm. The beam specimens were tested in bending under elevated temperatures of 20, 40, 60 and 80 Celsius degrees, resulting in load capacity and deflection measurements. Nonlinear behavior of tested flexible adhesives provided advantageous stress concentration reduction and even stress redistribution along the bond-line. Basing on the obtained results, various specimens numerical modeling of the innovative system. Finite Element Method numerical models were calibrated using experimental results and analysis allowed to visualize phenomenon of structural flexibility, which manifested promising properties in behavior of structural elements made of wood and flexible adhesives. Carried out research is aimed on developing of new wood-adhesive technology, more advantageous than classical systems using stiff and very thin layers of adhesives.]]>

Abstrakt: Opracowanie nawiązuje do ogólnych wymagań zapisanych w Prawie ochrony środowiska dotyczących oceny standardów jakości środowiska odnoszących się do emisji drgań pochodzących od eksploatowanych dróg. Podano tu procedury przydatne w ocenianiu wpływu na budynki eksploatowane drgań generowanych przejazdami pojazdów w pobliżu tych budynków. Drgania takie są wymuszeniem kinematycznym budynku i mogą doprowadzać do jego uszkodzeń (rysy, uszkodzenia elementów architektonicznych, zarysowania w elementach konstrukcyjnych itp.). Z kolei drgania w budynku mogą wpływać na naruszenie warunków niezbędnego komfortu wibracyjnego. Mogą też naruszać wymagania odnoszące się do warunków pracy urządzeń wrażliwych na drgania w budynkach eksploatowanych. Zadaniem rzeczoznawcy jest opracowanie diagnozy, w wyniku której uzyskuje się informacje o tym, czy istnieje związek skutkowo-przyczynowy między naruszeniem warunków bezpiecznej eksploatacji budynku a działaniem źródła drgań. Zastosowanie procedur tu opisanych powinno ułatwić wykonanie takich diagnoz. Postępując według podanych procedur rzeczoznawca będzie stosował odpowiednie narzędzia diagnostyczne, o których niezbędne informacje również zamieszczono w niniejszym opracowaniu.]]>

Abstrakt: Modelowanie to graficzna reprezentacja procesów w organizacji z wykorzystaniem dostępnych reguł i zasobów, dlatego ważne jest, aby do opisu modeli procesów, decyzji i oprogramowania używać uniwersalnego i kompleksowego standardu. Dostępne różne notacje do projektowania systemów informatycznych mogą zawierać nieścisłości oraz problemy związane z integracją różnych notacji i zachowaniem spójności pomiędzy nimi. Aby temu zapobiec istnieje potrzeba zdefiniowania nowej metodyki modelowania systemu biznesowego. Dzięki czemu zostanie osiągnięta wspólność metodyk na podstawie wyodrębnionych wspólnych cech diagramów. Mając to na uwadze jako główny cel badań wskazano możliwość integracji notacji OMG do projektowania systemów informatycznych z użyciem następujących notacji: UML, BPMN, DMN i CMMN. W pracy dokonano analizy dostępnej literatury opisującej aktualny stan wiedzy o notacji BPMN oraz przedstawienie problemów i niedociągnięć związanych z tym tematem.]]>

Abstrakt: PolyUrethane Flexible Joints (PUFJ) and Fiber Reinforced PolyUrethanes (FRPU) have been manifested their high efficiency in bonding and strengthening of structural elements for last years, assuring simultaneous transfer of high loads and high deformations. They can be used in structural and non structural bonding of various structural materials as concrete, masonry and wood. Many research and in situ applications confirmed they innovative and unique characteristics in civil engineering. PUFJ and FRPU systems are considering now as testing products in frame of a MEZeroE project (MEZeroE - measuring envelope products and systems contributing to the next generation of healthy nearly-zero-energy buildings) funded by European Commission in Horizon 2020 program. PUFJ and FRPU are proposed as new structural and non structural bonding systems or joints in wood constructions, mainly in envelopes of nearly-zero-energy buildings. PUFJ system can be applied as injection or prefabricated laminates creating wood-to-wood, wood-to-concrete or wood-to-masonry bonds. They can form thin or thick flexible adhesive bondlines with adjusted properties. FRPU system is dedicated quick repair intervention or strengthening as it uses high strength fibers and flexible polyurethane matrix for externally bonded composites. Special polyurethanes using in PUFJ and FRPU can work safely under various loads (strong winds, earthquakes) and manifest stable properties in elevated temperatures. They are dedicated to bonding of CLT panels, where they can replace steel connectors, providing thermal and humid problems and pure resistance to cyclic loads. In the paper, properties of PUFJ and FRPU systems are presented with examples of connections, planned to be tested at Cracow University of Technology in a Pilot Measurement and Validation Line (PM&VL) of the MEZeroE project. Presented connection solutions bond wood elements with other wood, concrete and masonry elements, providing advantageous hydro-thermal properties.]]>

Abstrakt: Infill structures consisting of reinforce concrete (RC) frame and masonry infill walls are very popular structures, especially in seismic areas. In such structures, RC skeleton plays load-bearing role and infill walls play significant role as secondary elements stiffening the entire building during earthquakes, when they are in good shape and structural condition. Their damages lead to reducing of stiffness and thus to reducing of seismic resistance of RC frame structures with infills. They should also be resistant to cyclically repeating earthquakes to reduce economic losses. In this paper, innovative solutions protecting infill structures are presented with results of their examination on a shake table, and especially damage and stiffness parameters changing with repeating seismic excitations are discussed. Their analysis confirmed that these introduced anti-seismic solutions based on flexible bonding are able to protect infill structures against serious damage and failure (in-plane or out-of-plane) and protect RC columns against damages under repeating strong seismic action, assuring safe level of load bearing capacity. Obtained results indicate that these antiseismic solutions can be used efficiently in damaged or newly constructed infill structures in seismic areas.]]>

Abstrakt: Earthquakes affect buildings in variety of ways. Among those, infill wall failures constitute a high proportion of the total visible damages in multi-story constructions, which can be easily observed even under low or moderate intensity earthquakes. The failures occur as a result of the interaction forces emerging at the interfaces of surrounding frame and walls, and mainly attributed to the brittle intrinsic characteristics of the materials. In order to overcome this challenge, an innovative solution aiming to mitigate damages on the structural components of the infilled RC buildings from the hazardous effects of seismic motions is investigated. The solution proposes to use a material called Polyurethane PM as the flexible joint between different structural members i.e., infill walls and concrete frames, in reinforcedconcrete (RC) buildings. The material has high ductility features that allow deformability capacity to reach remarkable levels. Thus, earthquake induced lateral displacement demands on the structural systems can be satisfied by means of dissipating the seismic energy up to the high drift levels, which is a crucial point from the earthquake engineering perspective. In this study, performance of the aforementioned PolyUrethane Flexible Joint (PUFJ) is examined in single-bay and single-story RC frames with different width-height infill wall aspect ratios. Three dimensional models are created numerically in the finite elements method (FEM) environment and gradually increasing monotonic horizontal loads are imposed on the top-beam level of the frames. For the comparison purposes, Stiff (STF) type of frames are also created which represent the traditional mortar joint implementation between the frame and infill walls. Moreover, as a reference, analyses on the BareFrame (BF) systems are conducted, too. The results are evaluated in terms of the stiffness and strength status of the frames as a whole system and besides, performances of the different materials are discussed on the individual component level.]]>

Abstrakt: The study presents innovative anti-seismic protection systems using PolyUrethane Flexible Joints (PUFJ) at the frame-infill interface and bonding of glass fiber meshes to the weak masonry substrate to form Fiber Reinforced PU (FRPU) as an emergency repair intervention. Due to the possibility of using the systems in existing and newly built structures in areas of increased risk of seismic excitations, the authors made an attempt to define the life cycle scenarios of these systems in terms of the possibility of extending the service life of these structures. The definition of the construction life cycle scenarios and the estimation of the corresponding investment costs and costs related to the operation and decommissioning of a given system were based on the approach presented in the ISO 15686 standard package "Buildings and constructed assets", part 2 – Service life prediction procedures and part 5 – Life cycle costing. The simulations covered a total of five variants of the systems application: (i) prefabricated PUFJ at 4 interfaces (in newly constructed buildings), (ii) injected PUFJ at 3 interfaces (improvement of existing buildings) and application of FRPU as a quick emergency or strengthening system (for buildings damaged by earthquakes) in variants (iii) at infill diagonals, (iv) at infill edges, and (v) as combination of the systems presented above (according to requirements). The cost analysis also took into account the potential impact of changes in the value of money over time and an increase in the production costs of building materials.]]>

Abstrakt: The analysis of the KMA (Krakow Metropolitan Area) area was carried out with respect to the available transport means and services. All types of the transport means (public, private, motorized, non-motorized) were taken into account as well as services allowing to plan the trip. Then the survey questionnaire on travel behavior, the use of innovative services and readiness to use the MaaS was carried out among inhabitants of the area. Basing on the analysis and the survey results the assumptions on the implementation of MaaS in KMA were proposed. Elaborated assumptions to implementing MaaS in KMA area relate, inter alia, to the functioning basis of the service, means of transportation to which it should apply as well as additional services and payment systems (packages and "pay-per-use" method). The entity responsible for establishing the service as well as stakeholders of this process were pointed out. All assumptions were made according to the paradigm of the sustainable mobility. The developed assumptions to implementing Mobility as a Service can be used by the public and private entities to establish the service in urban areas. The procedure applied in the research, due to the generally available methods and information, is universal and may be applied to similar analyses for other areas.]]>
