Abstrakt: Materials such as steel and aluminium, which are of main importance from an industrial application point of view, can exhibit so-called propagative instabilities, i.e. the Lueders bands and the Portevin Le-Chatelier (PLC) effect. They can appear simultaneously or separately along one loading path, depending on strain rate and temperature conditions. When plastic yielding occurs during tensile loading, strains can localise in a shear band, which is typically accompanied by (macroscopic) softening. The plastic front of such band can move through the sample upon further straining. When the material hardens, uniform deformation is retrieved. This phenomenon is called Lueders band formation. The PLC effect is commonly associated with Dynamic Strain Aging and related to negative strain rate sensitivity. Plastic deformation at the macroscopic level results from the initiation and motion of dislocations, whereby the motion can be stopped by solute atoms causing the dislocations to pile up. For continued loading and sufficiently large increase in stress the dislocations start to move again and the process repeats. In phenomenological description this is reflected by repetitive changes from hardening to softening in the related force-elongation diagram (serrations), while localised strain bands occur and propagate in the sample. Thereby, different PLC types can be distinguished. Type A bands propagate continuously and appear at lower temperatures and higher strain rates. Type B bands travel in a hopping manner and occur at medium temperatures and medium strain rates. Type C bands nucleate randomly and appear at higher temperatures and lower strain rates. This work is focused on the analysis of the Lueders bands and the PLC effect for aluminum alloy AW5083. Experiments on dog-bone shape specimens under tension have been performed for three strain rates. For all strain rates considered, Lueders bands are first observed, followed by (macroscopic) saturation-type hardening with PLC serrations. Moreover, different PLC types are observed. In order to computationally predict both the phenomena, a large strain thermo-visco-plastic model is proposed. Lueders bands are represented by a multi-linear hardening model, whereas the PLC effects are captured by the Estrin-McCormick model. Switch functions are also included in order to activate the respective model contributions. The model is implemented using AceGen/AceFEM for Wolfram Mathematica. A series of simulations are preformed and good agreement between experimental and numerical results is obtained.]]>

Abstrakt: The article presents design and investigation of foamed geopolymers as a green material that is dedicated to the circular economy. For the geopolymer synthesis as a raw material main waste form two Polish coal mines ‘Wieczorek’ and ‘Staszic’ were applied as well as a by-products from energy production – fly ash form ‘Skawina’ Power Plant. The aim of the research was to prepare lightweight materials using various foaming methods. The main issues that were addressed during the research were related to the selection of the most appropriate foaming agent and the optimization of process parameters (temperature, time, mixture components). As foaming agents, hydrogen peroxide, aluminum powder, and a commercial frothier for foam concrete were used. During the sample preparation process, stabilizers in the form of polyglycol and cellulose were applied. The tests carried out allowed to determine the two most optimal foaming agents as: hydrogen peroxide and aluminum powder according the physical and thermal properties of obtained materials. Attempts made with a commercial frothier for foam concrete did not allow satisfactory results to be obtained.]]>

Abstrakt: The article presents the first part of the research carried out under joint research project between the Republic of Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany under the grant ‘Underwater Eco-monitoring’ The main objective of the project is to prepare a scientific method for monitoring inland water reservoirs, with regard to fauna and flora, taking into account human activity. Investigation in the first phase is focused on understanding and characterizing the Zakrz´owek quarry and reported the stage before construction works based on available databases, research materials, literature, and other sources, including archives of the AKP ”Krab” AGH (diving club from Cracow). It is worth to mention that since the beginning of the 20th century, limestone has been extracted in the quarry in Zakrzówek (Cracow, Poland). Once mining was stopped in 1991, the excavation was filled with water, and an area became popular diving spot. Parallel to diving activity, in this water reservoir, there was a process of introduction of flora and fauna. The natural ecosystem starts to work there. In the summer of 2019, Zakrz´owek has been officially closed until 2021, during which time the city has plans to develop it into a recreation area. Due to the problems with COVID-19, the maintenance works are continuing in 2022 and the official opening of the water reservoir will be in 2023. The results obtained from the query provided describing the flora and fauna, as well as underwater landscapes in the quarry before the construction works. The next step will be create reports after construction works, including the influence on underwater lifer the construction materials.]]>

Abstrakt: In this article, we test the feature of using a Shared Virtual Memory in OpenCL on Intel Iris Xe and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs. The first of these architectures is integrated into the CPU, so by definition, it uses the same RAM as the CPU. The second one uses a PCI-Express connection to transfer data between computer memory and separate GPU memory. OpenCL Shared Virtual Memory (SVM) feature allows zero-copy mechanisms to use the same address space for the CPU and Accelerator. In this work, the authors test the differences between classical implementations of the FEM numerical integration algorithm on GPU with explicit data sending between CPU and Accelerator and the SVM implementation with the transfer hidden from the user. Research should answer whether the advantages of using a weaker integrated card with faster data transfer will overcome the external graphics card’s connection bottleneck.]]>

Abstrakt: In this article, an innovative water-based photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) system is proposed. A cooling box is designed and coupled with photovoltaic panel in order investigate the thermal behavior of the system. Different inlet temperatures and flow rates are examined under standard test conditions (STC). The temperature distribution and average temperature of the photovoltaic module layers are investigated. The results show that when the mass flow rate is 0.014 kg/s, and the inlet flow temperature is 15 °C, the PV module reaches an electrical conversion efficiency of 19.12% with 78.32% of thermal efficiency. The designed cooling system exhibits better performance with a significant increase in thermal and electrical conversion efficiency compared to current solutions in the literature. The findings in this paper highlight the utility of PV/T systems and their massive potential to popularize the solar energy field and harvest thermal and electrical energy simultaneously.]]>
<![CDATA[Analytical method for determining cutting forces during orthogonal turning of C45 steel]]> Thu, 01 Jun 2023 09:49:07 +0200 Ślusarczyk, Łukasz; Franczyk, Emilia
rodzaj: materiały konferencyjne w książce
Abstrakt: The authors present a method for determining cutting forces during orthogonal turning of C45 steel. The method utilizes Oxley’s chip formation model as well as Johnson-Cook (J-C) constitutive equation and is based on the assumption that the tool is perfectly sharp and the chip formation process is continuous. It is also assumed that the heat exchange between the workpiece, the tool and the chip is carried out by conduction with negligibly small loses caused by convection and radiation and that the thickness of the chip contacting the rake face is constant. The adoption of the above assumptions, together with the knowledge of cutting parameters (including the tool rake angle) as well as of material constants of J-C equation, allows to estimate the thermalmechanical state of the cutting process and to determine feed and tangential components of the cutting force. Average values of feed and tangent components of the cutting force are calculated using an algorithm implemented in the Matlab environment. The method is based on iterative determination of the minimum difference between stress values in the secondary shear zone. Considered tangential and normal stress values are expressed by formulas based on Oxley's cutting mechanics and the J-C model. The cutting force components obtained in the described method have been compared with the results obtained during experimental studies and with the results obtained in computer simulations using the FEM numerical calculation method.]]>

Abstrakt: This work presents a comparison the results of the real deformation of a four -segment fly rod used to the feeder method with the results obtained from the theory and the FEM. The experiment of bending comprises preparation of the measuring path, in which the real fly rod is loaded by a series of forces subsequently changing both magnitude and inclination. The FEM model of the fly rod is based on the beam ele ment and the variation of the cross -section is subjected to stepping approximation. The theoretical model takes advantage of the classical elliptic integral formulation applied to describe full curvature problem of long flexible bars. Dominant errors between the experimental data and numerical results come from essential difficulties in accurate measurement of the wall thickness as well as uncertainty of fibre carbon configuration.]]>

Abstrakt: In recent years and mainly after the pandemic period, the use of digital tools has led to an increase in their use for the development of teaching activities. These tools are of particular interest with techniques such as COIL or Collaborative Online International Learning which, although they have innumerable benefits, also have certain limitations which, depending on the project to be developed, can be decisive in losing part of their potential. In this sense, three European universities from different countries promoted, under the umbrella of an Erasmus+ programme, to return after the pandemic period to carry out face-to-face activities with students aligned with the COIL format. The aim of this project is to promote the activation of public spaces in city centres, which makes it necessary for the participants to be present, beyond the analysis through documentation or photographs that we can obtain or share digitally. The proposed communication tries to expose the project carried out by three schools of architecture, developed under a methodology that has tried to intertwine face-to-face and online activity, taking advantage of the benefits of each one of them.]]>

<![CDATA[Equivalence between classical epidemic model and quantum tight-binding model]]> Tue, 23 May 2023 12:01:06 +0200 Pomorski, Krzysztof
rodzaj: materiały konferencyjne w książce
Abstrakt: The equivalence between classical epidemic model and non-dissipative and dissipative quantum tight-binding model is derived. Classical epidemic model can reproduce the quantum entanglement emerging in the case of electrostatically coupled qubits described by von-Neumann entropy both in non-dissipative and dissipative case. The obtained results shows that quantum mechanical phenomena might be almost entirely simulated by classical statistical model. It includes the quantum like entanglement and superposition of states. Therefore coupled epidemic models expressed by classical systems in terms of classical physics can be the base for possible incorporation of quantum technologies and in particular for quantum like computation and quantum like communication. The classical density matrix is derived and described by the equation of motion in terms of anticommutator. Existence of Rabi like oscillations is pointed in classical epidemic model. Furthermore the existence of Aharonov-Bohm effect in quantum systems can also be reproduced by the classical epidemic model. Every quantum system made from quantum dots and described by simplistic tight-binding model by use of position-based qubits can be effectively described by classical model with very specific structure of S matrix that has twice bigger size as it is the case of quantum matrix Hamiltonian. Obtained results partly question fundamental and unique character of quantum mechanics and are placing ontology of quantum mechanics much in the framework of classical statistical physics what can bring motivation for emergence of other fundamental theories bringing suggestion that quantum mechanical is only effective and phenomenological but not fundamental picture of reality.]]>
