Road investments in Poland require prepara tion of a report describing the influence of the given investment on the environment and obtaining the opinion about environment determinants. The description of the environment in doc umentation is very limited and it usually discusses the geographical regions and more important forms of land surface. A detailed view study is not prepared except for the situations when the inves tment concerns a protected region and requires an approval or an agreement. The presented study concerns a section of the dual carriageway S7 Moczyd ł o – Szczepanowice – Widoma – Za stów – Kraków where it crosses the historic Solidarno ś ci Avenue included on the list of monuments. The aim of the study was the view analysis of three options where the dual carriageway S7 could cross Solidarno ś ci Avenue. The case study shows the possibility of using the available visu alisation and animation techniques in order to make the decisions concerning difficult situations easier. It also proves that such analyses are necessary for regions whose views are valuable . The guidelines discussed in the study which concern the location of acoustic walls, the acceptable height of screens in the form of walls and greenery, colours etc show that the direct neighbourhood of a road can be shaped. Such decisions should be made with the awareness of landscape context and there should be a landscape architect among people who make the decisions. A lack of el ements of visual pla nning in a road project results in the negative influence on the lands cape with a considerable scope of impact.
